Eleanor Waddington is an experienced Viola player from Kent, based in Manchester. Having recently graduated with Distinction in her ‘Masters in Performance with Artistic Research’ from the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), Eleanor is embarking on her career as a freelance violist and teacher. Her most recent highlights include performances with Manchester Camerata and Lincolnshire Chamber Orchestra.Eleanor’s time at RNCM saw her frequently perform as Principal Viola in symphonic, chamber and operatic projects. Performances included: Viola 1 in their performance of Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos, Prologue; Principal Viola in the RNCM Symphony Orchestra performance of Sibelius’ Symphony No.3; and Solo Viola 2 in the RNCM Chamber Orchestra performance of Reich’s Music for Ensemble and Orchestra with Andriessen (arr. Rundell) Rosa’s Horses. Eleanor was also fortunate enough to be selected as a participant of the Manchester Camerata Professional Experience Scheme 2020/21 as well as being selected to perform as part of RNCM’s 21c Global Orchestra, which involved collaborating with musicians from across the globe in a celebration of what an orchestra could be in the 21st Century.Alongside these engagements, Eleanor collaborates and workshopping with composers to create new music. Eleanor has worked closely with Po Hang Yuen on the recording of his piece Modal Duplexity and recorded an immersive theatre project with Henry Page, Emily Pederson and the New Artist Collective. Most recently, Eleanor has joined a pioneering new opera group Opera Junction. Which aims to harness the power of opera to create entertainment pieces encouraging critical thought on contemporary issues.

Eleanor Waddington is an experienced Viola player from Kent, based in Manchester. She has a Distinction-Class MMus from the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) and a First-Class MusB (Hons) degree from the University of Manchester. Her recent performances include playing with Manchester Camerata and working under the baton of Sir Mark Elder. Eleanor has been teaching violin and viola for the last 7 years and is passionate about the enjoyment of music over everything else.Alongside her private teaching work, Eleanor is an Upper-Strings Tutor at Yorkshire Young Musicians in Leeds, teaching and coaching talented young people in performing and collaborating; and a peripatetic teacher at The Hathershaw College in Oldham, teaching group violin/viola to 11–13-year- olds following the Music in Secondary Schools Trust group tuition curriculum. Eleanor aims to provide unique experiences for all her students, ensuring the lessons are tailored to the individual ensuring enjoyment is her top priority.Eleanor also works closely within her community to provide musical opportunities across Greater Manchester.
